Just curious... Are teachers taking this as a victory? Does anyone feel these changes were made because their voice was heard.

Not so much a victory, because contract changes were not made and not all changes were reversed, but at least awareness was raised in the community as to what was really going on despite the district PR spin. The biggest factor in all of this was the number of parents and students who showed up in support of this. In my opinion, that is what made the district administration take a second look at what they had done and realize how unpopular and how unsound those decisions were and reverse some of the changes. So for that, teachers and students offer a huge thank you to the parent community who participated. However, there is still a lot to be done to ensure something like this doesn't happen again next year.

I am not sure how many changes were reversed, or if that is more spin. The two schools that I actually know something about went through some additional staff/class changes, and nothing was reversed or changed by the walk-out.

I have enjoyed this blog throughout this whole community trauma, and it's unfortunate that the dialogue has dried up. I want to suggest to the owner that this might be a better blog if it wasn't so partisan - there's a great Seattle school blog that encourages discussion and debate, but is able to do so because it doesn't come off as an advertisment for their union, or any single perspective - everyone is fair game on that blog.
