Hi All,
It is with a very heavy heart that I write to all of you, not as a fellow parent or friend, but as a teacher in the Shoreline School District. This evening 86.5% of teachers and 87% of Support Staff in attendance voted to authorize a strike if the district and our union bargaining teams have not reached a tentative agreement by Tuesday morning at 6:00 am.
As somebody who grew up attending Shoreline Schools and has worked for the district for over 15 years, this is a very sad day.
The information presented to us included a 10 year look at our district leadership (8 superintendents in 9 years), their financial mismanagement, and how Shoreline staff have time and time again made sacrifices to help get back on track. The proposed cuts, especially to our support staff are absolutely devastating.
I encourage all of you to take the time, if you haven't already, to talk to your children's teachers and support staff, read all available information from both the district and our unions to stay on top of the situation and the issues. Don't forget that 3 school board members are running for their seats again this year.
Bargaining teams will meet again with state negotiators beginning tomorrow evening and continuing throughout the weekend if necessary. Staff will be kept informed of any progress throughout the weekend.
Please join Shoreline teachers and support staff in the fight for the future of Shoreline Schools. Help your schools with picketing and passing out information if they need it. Contact Superintendent Sue Walker and our School board with your messages. Spread the word and talk about what is happening.
We all hope to begin school on time and continue doing our best to provide a quality education for Shoreline children.
Please feel free to ask me any questions and I will do the best I can to answer them, or get an answer.

I fully support the teachers efforts to keep the cuts away from teacher and staff time. Our schools have already lost personnel over the years and we have just closed two schools. The School district needs to find the money somewhere else.

I support the teachers of the shoreline school district. You are doing the right thing.
